Bear Park, West Glacier, Montana – August 2nd

Third time lucky! After initially getting pretty excited when we went past this drive through bear park on our way to Glacier National Park, (when it was closed), then again when we went back past with no brakes a couple of days later (still closed, due to lots of rain), we were pretty happy that the bear park was open when we detoured to go past it on our way to Lake Koocanusa in Montana, where we’d be camping with some of the friends.

So although we still haven’t actually seen any bears in the wild (this will surely happen sometime right?!), we’ve at least seen some!! The park is basically a winding road through some natural bushland where there are 3-5 black bears (raised in captivity) roaming around (with electric/wire fences in some spots), so you drive through and can see them at pretty close range, depending on how close they feel like getting! So there are a few staff who sometimes wander around pretty close to the bears, with food etc (interesting job??!)

They were pretty big. And slow, and lazy, and awesome! So glad we went here, it was great to finally see some bears!! Definitely would be pretty wary seeing them in the wild if we were hiking or anything!
