South California Coast (south of LA) - July 10th & 11th

From Malibu we battled the city traffic on the outskirts of LA (sorry did I say battled? Really we just sat there… For quite some time…) and headed down to San Clemente, between LA and San Diego. We watched some really nice waves at a well known (apparently, I was pretty clueless) surfspot, ‘T Street’, and Lawrie drooled over the surf for ages. Then we stayed the night in a motel carpark on the main road (as advised to do by the guy on front desk, which was nice!) before heading to T Street to surf the next morning.

The waves weren’t quite as perfect and glassy as the night before (sorry Lawrie!) but a great surf was had by all, as I slept in the back of the van for a while longer, and took some photos – the water was still a little too cold to properly enjoy a swim! There were so many people watching the waves though!

After T Street we headed down a tiny bit further to Trestles, a major surfing spot usually featured in the World Tour – after walking all the way there, we definitely saw why! There are lots of separate surf breaks along the beach there, but one of them (the one used for the World Tour events) had some pretty amazing surfing happening! Considering how far down the beach it was, by walking a couple of km from the car, there were heaps of people there! So this is some of what we saw… Not sure if we saw anyone famous surfing, but… wow!

  1. Haha Lawrie in his element! :-D

I still can't help making little squeaky noises whenever I see chipmunks or similar... Yes, even at work! ;-)
